Set routines.
If you have one, keep it.
And if you don't have one, find one.
And then keep it.
Nate Sexton turns his disc over half a dozen times. James Conrad throws his gorgeous ponytail over his shoulder. Kevin Jones drops his butt deeper than anyone would think possible. Imitate what others do until you find what calms your nerves best.
Or, better yet, develop your own process. As long as it is miniature and repeatable, it will do the job. It can be your signature to get on the course if you want – have fun.

Still, there are many who have mastered their putting routine but can't shake the nerves that amateur disc golfers often feel as they stare down the barrel of a very doable 22-foot putt while the rest of the card watches intently see if they saturated the proverbial bed.
The effortless solution?
Practice.
Phew.
The long-term solution is to make yourself comfortable with the exercise basket in the backyard.
There IS but different…
And it has everything to do with your putting routine. Stick with the routine you're currently working with. However, instead of dealing with your lie and starting things off, stand 5 to 7 feet away from your lie, space permitting, and work through the same routine.
Then, before putting, move on to your actual lying and putting without repeating this routine.
To clarify, proceed as follows:
- Stand 1.5 to 2.1 meters from your lying surface.
- Work through your putting routine.
- Then address your lie.
- And putt.
Doneskie.

The logic behind it is uncomplicated…
Sure, a 22-foot putt might look long. But compared to a 27-foot putt, it feels doable.
Or at least more doable.
I've also heard from disc golfers that this trick helps them mentally focus on attacking the chains with a putt, thereby reducing the chance of momentarily hitting the disc into the front of the cage. Full disclosure, this method doesn't do much for me – I try it every few years or so.
But hey, it might do something for you…
Anything to avoid embarrassment, right?
Try it.
