WEATHER THIS WEEKEND
At the 2024 Discraft Great Lakes Open (DGLO) in Milford, the chance of rain and thunderstorms is highest on Friday as a front moves through in the evening. The forecast for Saturday is still uncertain, so watch for possible updates regarding rain. Temperatures will drop through Saturday before warming slightly on Sunday, although wind will keep it feeling similar throughout the weekend. Expect cooler air to move in after the front on Friday, setting the stage for a potentially brisk but manageable weekend.
FPO FORECAST
- FPO1 feature card: Missy Gannon, Kristin Tattar, Ohn Scoggins and Holyn Handley
- FPO2 feature card: Ella Hansen, Paige Pierce, Kat Mertsch and Chantel Budinsky
Here’s a look at the main storylines from this weekend:
1️⃣ Eveliina Salonen's Momentum
Eveliina Salonen is on a roll after claiming her first World Championship title and fourth DGPT event win of the year. Salonen was a force from tee to green in 2024, leading the FPO field with an average gain of 23.3 strokes per event. She will be looking to add another trophy to her collection, but given the unique challenge of the luge course and a enormous field of competitors, it will be no simple task.
2️⃣ Kristin Tattar returns
Kristin Tattar, the 2021 DGLO champion, returns to the tournament for the first time since her win. Tattar has been nothing brief of spectacular this season, leading the FPO division with five DGPT event wins. After a mighty 3rd place finish at the World Championships, Tattar is looking to reclaim her throne at DGLO. Her ability to master the luge course and maintain her form will be key to whether she can score her sixth win of the season.
3️⃣ Ohn Scoggins defends her title
Without Scoggins claimed her first Elite Series win at the DGLO last year, but she finished a disappointing 12th at the World Championships – her first event outside the top 10 since 2023. With a remarkable track record of top finishes, Scoggins will look to bounce back and defend her title on a course that clearly suits her game. Her precise putting and ability to avoid OB shots make her a formidable competitor on this course.
MPO FORECAST
- MPO1 Feature Card: Isaac Robinson, Simon Lizotte, Paul McBeth and Anthony Barela
- MPO2 feature card: Eagle McMahon, Niklas Anttila, Luke Taylor and Ben Callaway
Here’s a look at the main storylines from this weekend:
1️⃣ Simon Lizotte's title defense
Simon Lizotte's 2023 win at DGLO was a feat of precision and power, and he will be looking to repeat that success this year. Lizotte has a mighty track record at DGLO with three consecutive top-10 finishes. With the competition tougher than ever, Lizotte will need to do his best to fend off challengers and make it two wins in a row.
2️⃣ Eagle McMahon's quest for a third title
Eagle McMahon has been nothing brief of spectacular at DGLO. With two titles under his belt and a podium finish at the recent PDGA Pro Worlds, McMahon is brimming with confidence. Remarkably, he has never finished worse than second at DGLO, a testament to his mastery on the track. Fans will be excited to see if he can continue his winning streak and score his third DGLO victory.
3️⃣ The return of the champions: Heimburg & Wysocki
Calvin Heimburg and Ricky Wysocki are two of the most formidable competitors on tour, and both have storied histories at DGLO. Heimburg, the 2022 champion, has been a model of consistency, with four top-10 finishes in his five appearances at the event. Wysocki, the 2013 DGLO winner, has similarly impressive performances, reaching podium finishes in three of his five starts. As they return to the sled track, both players are hungry for another win, setting the stage for an epic battle between these disc golf titans.
