In early August, I had the incredible opportunity to bring the joy of Frisbee back to Swift Current, Saskatchewan, thanks to the inspiration of Terence, who I met earlier in the season at a demonstration at the Windscape Kite Festival. During the July 2024 Kite Festival, Terence stayed at my station all afternoon, mesmerized by the endless possibilities of the Frisbee – from tricks with an XDISC to self-caught flights with a Dodgebee to disc golf and a newfound love of mini disc golf.
Inspired by Terence's enthusiasm and joy in discovering Frisbee, with the facilitate of my friend Amanda, we organized a series of Frisbee camps for children aged 6-16, as well as two disc golf workshops. The goal was to spread the joy of Frisbee, create more opportunities for children like Terence, and connect the existing community with modern Frisbee enthusiasts.
I also brought Sailor the touchdown dog for some fun demonstrations. Meeting Sailor was a highlight for many children and added an extra dose of excitement to the camp!
Fueled by Amanda's passion, the support from the community was tremendous, with local businesses like Swift Plumbing and Heating, Stringam Law, and Brad Gross Wealth Advisory Group stepping in as our major sponsors.
A special thank you goes out to the City of Swift Current for bringing their children from summer camp and to all the parents who believed in our vision and brought their children to participate.
The energy and enthusiasm we experienced was truly inspiring and we are already discussing whether we can make this an annual event. Stay tuned to find out what happens next year!
