As is usual in Leicester, Massachusetts, the Disc Golf Pro Tour Playoffs 2024 – MVP Open, presented by OTB, gets off to a stormy start.
Both divisions sit atop the leaderboard after the first 18 of the four-round event, the final DGPT stop of the season with championship implications on the line, and the field is right behind them.
FPO's three co-leaders – Missy Gannon, Raven Klein and Ella Hansen – all arrived at their 4-under result differently. Gannon was the only player in the field to make it without a bogey; Klein led with eight birdies; and Hansen only made one slip on the infamous 8th hole, which supports one of the ponds on the popular Maple Hill property.
Gannon led C2 in regulation time (78%) and had 316 feet of putts in Round 1, second only to Ohn Scoggins. Klein led in C1 in regulation (50%) on a day where precipitation continued.
Kristin Tattar rounds out the top card at 3-under, tied with Natalie Ryan. Scoggins, Erick Stinchcomb and Anniken Steen are all at 2-under, just two shots behind the top three.
It's a very similar story at MPO – but no one in the field escaped the Maple Hill Golds unscathed.
Paul McBeth made 11 birdies – five in a row on the back nine – but also had three bogies. Ezra Robinson birdied the first five holes. Gannon Buhr reached 6-under on the back nine.
They all sit at the top of the leaderboard at 8-under, with Ricky Wysocki rounding out the top group and Gavin Babcock right behind at 7-under.
McBeth led in fairway hits (95%) and C1 and C2 in regulation, while C1X's Robinson went 11-for-11.
Defending champion Matthew Orum played an ace to finish at 5-under, a score shared by five other players.
It's actually in full swing in Massachusetts.
