I love this quote…
I apply it to all aspects of life:
“As you do one thing, so you do everything.”
Thank you, Martha Beck.
You can also direct these words in almost any direction.
Feel free to replace “do” with one of the following:
- “Prepare yourself for…”
- “Approach”
- “Respect”
Do you understand what I mean?
The message remains the same.

But let’s focus briefly on the last point…
When it comes to disc golf courses, not nearly enough of them get the respect they deserve. There are a million ways to skin that cat, but it's the abundance of trash on the course that makes me believe that far too many disc golfers live in total filth at home. So why don't they bring it to the course, right? Beer cans, chip bags, candy wrappers, water bottles, cigarette butts, etc.
Pack it in. Unpack it.
That is NOT a convoluted concept.
Vandalism is another one of those “get off my lawn!” problems. Unfortunately, in my experience, badly damaged disc golf signs, baskets, and tee boxes are the rule rather than the exception.
It is right that the throwing away of waste in any form should be prohibited.
Don't do it.
However, there is one type of disc golf vandalism that I actually enjoy…
Stickers on tee signs.
How, MANY of stickers.
I'm sure you've seen this before, and if not, it's not uncommon to see something similar at ski resorts, skate parks, or on trail markers along hiking trails – something like this:
I love it.
As long as the keyhole details are not covered, you can do it.
Better yet, to avoid accidentally upsetting anyone, you can place your self-adhesive self-impression on the back of a tee sign—that's a prime spot. Wrapped around the center post of a basket is also a great place to get original. And the back of a pin's number plate works, too.
Despite my innate grumpiness, I don't mind (respectful) vandalism with stickers, as it adds visual character to the course while remaining true to the sport I love. Anything goes: manufacturer logos, discount codes from local retailers, Instagram handles of Disc Dyer fans, etc.
The more colorful, the better.
Bonus points for neon green.
